What is Generic Nizoral?

Nizoral is effective due to the active ingredient Ketoconazole in its composition. The drug is endowed with fungistatic and fungicidal activity, mainly directed against the dimorphic fungi and yeast, pityriasis versicolor, cryptococci, trichophyton, dermatophytes, epidermophitia, staphylococci and streptococci.

For external use the active substance of the drug is not absorbed into the systemic circulation.

  • treatment of diseases of mucous membranes, skin and hairy head area provoked by dermatophytes and / or a yeast;

  • pharyngeal candidiasis, oral cavity, skin;
  • pityriasis versicolor;
  • chronic forms of candidiasis;
  • chronic vaginal candidiasis of relapsing forms;
  • histoplasmosis;
  • prevention and treatment of fungal infections caused by particularly sensitive to ketoconazole pathogens (fungal infections of nails, skin, soft tissue);
  • systemic fungal infections;
  • blastomycosis;
  • paracoccidioidomycosis;
  • coccidioidomycosis;
  • fungal infections of the mucous layer of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • prevention of fungal infections with reduced immunity (receiving chemotherapeutic drugs as well).

It is inappropriate to use tablets in fungal meningitis due to poor penetration through the blood-brain barrier.

Nizoral drug has contraindications:

All forms of release:

  • hypersensitivity.

Tablets:

  • diseases of the kidneys and liver of severe form;
  • lack of lactase;
  • lactose intolerance;
  • glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation period;
  • up to 3 years old children.

Extreme caution in:

  • hormonal imbalance;
  • women after age 50;
  • the passage of treatment with hepatotoxic agents;
  • reduced stomach acidity;
  • in conjunction with antacids (only after 2 hours after receiving Nizoral);
  • achlorhydria or reception medications to suppress gastric secretion of hydrochloric acid;
  • hepatic insufficiency (probable hepatotoxicity);
  • after major surgery;
  • adrenal insufficiency and borderline;
  • alcohol abuse.

How should I take Nizoral?

Nizoral tablets are taken with meals.

Dosage information

The therapeutic course depends on the diagnosis:

  • one month - in the treatment of tinea;
  • ten days - pityriasis versicolor;
  • from six months to a year - onychomycosis therapy;
  • one or two months - systemic mycosis;
  • five days - thrush;
  • two or three weeks - the skin and oral candidiasis.

Recommended dosages per day:

  • 200 mg - adults, the dosage may be increased to 400 mg;
  • 100 mg - children with a weight from 15 to 30 kg.

What may interact with Nizoral?

When using the drug Nizoral simultaneously with other drugs is observed:

  • reduction of Ketoconazole with Isoniazid, Rifampicin;
  • increasing the concentration of active components Cyclosporine, Warfarin, Methylprednisolone;
  • increasing toxicity of ethanol, difenina; not recommended their combination with Nizoral;
  • possible bleeding while taking tablets and oral contraceptives with low levels of hormones;
  • possible interactions with oral form of Midazolam and Triazolam ;
  • possible simultaneous use with Dihydroergotamine, Ergotamine, Ergometrine, Methylergometrine and other ergot alkaloids;
  • possible interactions with Irinotecan, Nisoldipine, Everolimus, Eplerenone.

What should I watch for while taking Nizoral?

Nizoral tablets considering the high risk of hepatotoxicity used exclusively in the case of exceeding the expected benefits of the potential threat while taking into account the availability of other effective antifungal agents.

Therapy with tablets begins after previous evaluation of the functional state of the liver, thus completely eliminating chronic or acute pathology.
