Flonase is a glucocorticosteroid drug that is intended for intra-zonal use. It is able to reduce the process of production of biologically active substances and anti-inflammatory mediators. It has anti-allergy, anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effects. The drug has anti-inflammatory effect due to interaction with receptors of glucocorticoids.
When using Flonase drug on the nasal mucosa it has anti-inflammatory effects. Since the first using the result occurs within two to four hours. The drug is able to stop the main signs of allergic reactions that occur in the nasal cavity. Also it eliminates unpleasant feeling in the eye area.
After the relief and a significant reduction of symptoms after single dose drug effects persist for days. If you follow the correct dosage then the drug does not have systemic effects.

Contraindication to the use of Flonase is hypersensitivity to any component of this medication. It is also forbidden to give to children who are younger than four years.
It is not recommended to use the drug if you have herpes as well as infections of the nasal cavity or paranasal sinuses. In infectious diseases of the nose is required appropriate treatment but it is not a contraindication for use of Flonase.

Dosage information
Adults and children over 12 years: 2 injections in each nostril 1 per day, in the morning. In some cases it may be 2 times a day but do not exceed the recommended maximum daily dose (4 injection in each nostril).
Children 4 to 12 years: 1 injection in each nostril once a day (or twice).
Older patients can use the same dose as adults.
For a full therapeutic effect use the drug regularly. The maximum therapeutic effect occurs within 3-4 days of treatment.
What may interact with Flonase?
You should avoid simultaneous use of Ritonavir and Fluticasone because first one can increase the concentration of fluticasone in blood plasmaexcept when the benefits of this application will be greater than the risk of systemic effects of corticosteroids. Also reported about increasing of the risk of a systemic effect of the combined use of fluticasone with other strong inhibitors of CYP3A.
Simultaneous use of Fluticasone with other inhibitors of P450 ZA4 leads to a slight (Erythromycin) or low (Ketoconazole) increase the concentration of Flonase in blood plasma that does not cause a noticeable decrease concentration of Cortisol in serum.

In most cases of seasonal allergic rhinitis is sufficient prescription of a nasal spray but severe illness (with a high concentration of allergens in the summer) may require an appropriate additional treatment.
It may cause systemic effects especially when it is used in high doses for a long time. The possibility of occurrence of this effect is lower than with oral corticosteroids and varies depending on various corticosteroids and individual patient response.
There are cases of stunted growth in children treated with approved doses.
