What is Generic Aygestin?

The active ingredient of Aygestin is a Norethisterone. In comparison with other known progestins drug even though it does not belong to the most active progestogens, yet its properties are unusually favorable for therapy.

In the so-called "delay of mensis" (postponing of menstruation) which is used to determine the effectiveness of progestogens; the drug exhibits the properties of weak progestogen.

In contrast to many progestin compounds Norethisterone has a pronounced anti-estrogenic character and unlike to the other Norethisterone derivatives in the body only a small part of the compound is converted to estrogen.

How should I take Aygestin?

Aygestin is taken internally with a glass of water with or without food at certain days of menstrual cycle.

Dosage information

In uterine myoma: 5 - 10 mg, from 5 to 25 days of the menstrual cycle, not more than 6 months.

Mammalgia, premenstrual syndrome, dysmenorrhea: 5 - 10 mg per day in the period from 16th to 25th day of the menstrual cycle and can be taken together with an estrogen; in the lack of effectiveness and severe decompensated form - 5 mg, starting from the fifth day of the cycle for 21 days.

Endometriosis: 5 mg per day, from 5 to 25 day cycle for 6 months; continuation of therapy is determined by the doctor.

Adenomyosis: 5 mg per day from the fifth to the 25th day of the cycle for 6 months, or starting from 2.5 mg per day on the fifth day of the cycle, gradually increase the dose to 2.5 mg every 2 - 3 weeks for 4 - 6 months.

Termination of dysfunctional uterine bleeding: 5 - 10 mg for 6 - 12 days, relapse prevention - to 5 - 10 mg per day from the 16th to the 25th day of the cycle.

Endometrial hyperplasia, anovulatory metrorrhagia: not more than 6 months before the treatment, the dysfunctional nature of the bleeding must be confirmed by histological analysis; 5 - 10 mg daily for 6 - 12 days; in achieving the desired effect, between 16 and 25 days cycle 5 - 10 mg per day, usually in conjunction with estrogen, for the prevention of relapse.

Progesterone Diagnostic test: 10 mg for 10 days; if after 3 - 7 days after application of of Aygestin appeared moderate bloody discharge and remained for 3 - 4 days, the reaction is considered to be a natural.

Lactation termination: the first three days administered as a daily dose of 20 mg from fourth to seventh day, take 15 mg per day from the eighth to the tenth day taking 10 mg per day.

What may interact with Aygestin?

What should I watch for while taking Aygestin?
