Generic Eldepryl is an antiparkinson medication with the active ingredient Selegiline. A drug inhibits MAO-B (monoamine oxidase) and enhances the level of dopamine in the brain (by decreasing its oxidation).

What should I tell my health care provider before I takeGeneric Eldepryl?
Tell your doctor about every medication that you currently take or used to take during last 2 weeks. Inform him whether you have high blood pressure, heart, liver or kidney diseases and if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
How should I take Eldepryl?
Take Eldepryl by mouth with liquid (not breaking, not chewing) in the morning before the breakfast and before the lunch if you take it twice a day; don’t take it before bedtime if you want to sleep well. There are some foods that are forbidden during taking Eldepryl and 2 weeks after stopping in “what to avoid?”
Follow directions and stop the Eldepryl treatment only if your doctor advised you to do that; don’t increase or decrease a dosage.
Dosage information
During monotherapy usually patients take 5 mg in one day; during combination therapy with levodopa and carbidopa they take 5-10 mg which allows reducing the dose of levodopa by 10-30% per day without deterioration of motor functions of a patient.
What may interact with Eldepryl?
To reduce occurring of side effects avoid: antidepressants, medicines for high blood pressure, other MAO inhibitors, appetite suppressants, drugs for attention deficit disorder, cold medications, nasal decongestants, fentanyl, street drugs, stimulants, drugs that can increase serotonin and others.
What should I watch for while taking Eldepryl?
In combination with sympathomimetic amines dose of selegiline should not exceed 10 mg / day. It is necessary to be cautious patients with diabetes, as MAO inhibitors may increase hypoglycemia.
Follow diet and avoid foods from the list below because they are high in tyramine: aged cheeses and meat, poultry, fish, salami, sausages, soybean products, sauerkraut, products with yeast, beer, red wine, vermouth and others.
Try to avoid physical activity that needs attention and speed of reactions.
What side effects may I notice from Generic Eldepryl?
Not every side effect needs medical attention unless if they continue during few days. There are side effects because of taking Eldepryl drugs, combining it with forbidden food and because of overdose. Most common of them are:
Digestive system (loss of appetite, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, dry mouth, dysphagia);
Nervous system (fatigue, dizziness, headache, anxiety, motor and mental excitement, insomnia, hallucinations; rare - confusion, psychoses);
The cardiovascular system (sometimes - orthostatic hypotension, rarely - increased blood pressure, arrhythmia);
The senses (blurred vision, diplopia);
Urinary system (urinary retention, rarely - vesical tenesmus, nocturia);
Allergic reactions (skin rash, shortness of breath, photosensitivity);
Other (sometimes - hypoglycemia, hair loss, hyper perspiration);
Symptoms of overdose: if to take a dose more than 60 mg / day there is a MAO-A inhibition which in combination with foods that contain tyramine can cause headaches, dizziness, increased or decreased blood pressure; insomnia or drowsiness, weakness, anxiety, pain in the chest, tachycardia, arrhythmia, heat sensation, confusion, shock.
