What is Generic Singulair?

The main ingredient of the drug belongs to a group of antagonists of leukotriene receptors. It exerts inhibitory activity on bronchospasm after 2 hours after consumption of the tablet. This effect is caused by the influence of drugs beta-agonists and antigens that have an inhibitory effect on the early and late phase spasm. Montelukast control such disease as bronchial asthma by reducing eosinophils in the blood and the patient's sputum.

It should be noted that the medication increases the forced expiratory volume, especially in the morning, as well as helps to reduce beta-agonists needs. It helps strengthen the impact of glucocorticoids which are taken by inhalation.

Bronchospasm that are provoked by physical exercises can be reduced by the taking of presented tablets.

Dosage information

Children from 15 years and adults take 1 tablet with the dosage of 10 mg once a day in the evening. Taking this medication is independent from food intake.

General recommendations for using:

The action of the drug lasts for one day and in this regard there are recommendations to take pills daily during stable disease and its deterioration.

Concurrent consumption of other drugs that also contains Montelukast is not recommended.

During mild and moderate liver insufficient work elderly patients do not require a correction of dosage. There are no reliable data presented in the case of severe violations of the liver.

To children aged 6-14 years usually prescribe tablets in chewable form.

What may interact with Singulair?

It is allowed to take it with drugs that are used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma. Singulair may be addition to monotherapy with bronchodilators in the case of their poor efficiency. There is an additional therapeutic effect along with taking inhaled corticosteroids.

What should I watch for while taking Singulair?

It should be remembered that this medicine cannot be a substitute for inhaled or oral glucocorticoids. Patients should be aware that the consumption of the drug does not affect the effect of acetylsalicylic acid and other assets belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.

There have been rare cases where patients taking drugs of this group manifested systemic eosinophilia which in very rare situations complicated by manifestations of vasculitis and Churg-Strauss syndrome. In such cases doctors usually prescribe systemic glucocorticoids. Some of these situations may result by cancellation of glucocorticoids intended for oral taking.

Individual ability to control machinery or doing other potentially hazardous activities: medicinal elements do not affect a person’s ability. However, because of such a side effect of medications as drowsiness the above activities should be done with caution and after a sober assessment of your condition.

What side effects may I notice from Generic Singulair?

From the blood system can occur increasing of probability of bleeding in a patient.

Immune system: it is possible the development of hypersensitivity to the individual constituent elements of pills.

Mental state: patient may notice changes in sleep, hallucinations, occurrence of irritability, excitement and restlessness.

Side effects in the nervous system are manifested in the form of headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, paresthesias and seizures.

Musculoskeletal system can manifest itself in arthralgia, myalgia or muscle spasm.

Also can be noticed heart palpitations, changes in blood (in the form of diarrhea, nausea or vomiting), elevated liver enzymes and the appearance of angioedema.

Other undesirable effects of Singulair:

  • Depression;
  • Xerostomia;
  • Bruising;
  • Involuntary contraction of muscles, trembling of the hands;
  • Hives, rash, and itching of the skin;
  • Tendency to the formation of edema;
  • The feeling of body tension, muscle pain.

Where can I keep Singulair?

Keep the medicine with the temperature which should not exceed 25 degrees. Choose the storage space in a dark, dry and inaccessible to children place. After the expiry date which ends after 2 years from the date of manufacture tablets should not be used.
