Description

What is Generic Celexa?

Celexa is a potent inhibitor of the reuptake of serotonin and its reducing effect in the case of long-term treatment with this active ingredient is not happening.

The ability to bind with receptors including adrenergic receptors, histamine, muscarinic in Generic Celexa is weakly expressed. It inhibits cytochrome P450IID6 in a fairly small extent and therefore does not interact with drugs directly metabolized by this enzyme.

It helps to improve mood, suppresses anxiety, eliminates dysphoria, weakens the feeling of tension and fear, relieves compulsive and almost doesn’t cause a soporific effect.

The highest concentration of active ingredient in the blood after ingestion occurs within 3-4 hours. The bioavailability is close to 80%. Binding with plasma proteins is 80%.

In the blood it is present mainly in its original form. The half-life time is one and half days. Evacuate with urine and through the intestines.

Celexa Dosage information

Cancelling the drug should be performed slowly, gradually reducing the dose over 2-3 weeks.

Usually people take twenty mg but it can be increased to 40 mg per day but not more than 60 mg.

In panic disorders it is 10 mg per day. After a week of treatment it can be increased to 20 mg per day. If an effect of treatment is unsatisfactory then the dosage can be increased to 60 mg per day. The therapeutic effect is usually reached after about 3 months of therapy.

The elderly patients can take 20 mg but depending upon the severity of condition and individual sensitivity it may be increased in this category of patients to 40 mg but it is the biggest dose they can take.

Do not abruptly discontinue therapy. The dose should be successively reduced by several weeks in order to reduce the risk of undesirable symptoms.

What may interact with Celexa?

In a joint application with MAO blocker is not excluded occurrence of hypertensive crisis (malignant serotonin syndrome). Using drug Citalopram with those blockers and during two weeks after their withdrawal is forbidden.

It inhibits CYP2D6 isoenzyme in a very small degree so it does not interact perfectly with drugs metabolized by this isoenzyme directly.

Action of Sumatriptan and other drugs of serotonergic group are stimulated by online Celexa in their joint application.

Pharmacodynamic interactions with cardiotropic agents are not detected during clinical trials.

What should I watch for while taking Celexa?
